Patch Poll: Should Gas Tax Money Go to State Parks?

Roads in Benicia and throughout the state are deteriorating and the funds to fix them are getting more and more scarce.

The Benicia State Recreation Area is one of the state parks slated for closure that could see money from a new proposal authored by two Northern California lawmakers.

State Senators proposal that would allow lawmakers to use money in existing state accounts to pay some of the operating costs of state parks slated for closure. Among the accounts is the Department of Motor Vehicles' $500 million motor vehicles account for public roads. 

The proposal would take $10 million from this account and use that money to repair roads and enforce traffic laws in state parks that have roads such as the Benicia State Recreation Area.

The only stipulation so far is that the money should go to preventing the closure of 50 state parks that are slated for closure, but which 50 parks is still to be determined.
